The Team
The Ramsay Downholers have existed under a couple of different incarnations. Originally formed 10 years ago as The Devils, by Micky Molloy and a few of his buddies, the make-up of the team has evolved into its present form. We've played in a few different leagues in and around Calgary, always looking for lower league fees and better ice times. We've always gone after guys that fit the team, not necessarily the ones who light up the scoreboard. That's probably why we've never won bugger-all.
Rollie Sweetman is the third captain of the team. Through his leadership, we've done progressively worse each season. Ask Rollie and he'll tell you we're still rebuilding. Can anyone say "Maple Leafs"? Oh, but this is our year. Just ask Rollie.
Anyhow, The Downholers came about because of this little web project. Play Rollie's bio and he'll give you all his lame-assed reasons why. Yes, the jerseys say Devils. We know.
Beer league hockey isn't about the hockey. It's about the room. Guys who play will understand. Those who don't will try. Stick around and eventually you'll figure it out.
Somebody smart like Michael Moore once said a documentary is regular life with all the boring shit cut out. That's what this site is. We'll do our best to cut the crap out, so all you see is the good stuff. But, don't hold us to it.
